Adobe recently announced that it currently plans to discontinue perpetual licenses for Photoshop CS, choosing instead to launch subscription based Photoshop CC.

In short, you’ll need to sign up for a monthly subscription with Adobe to gain access to the newest versions of Photoshop.

  • With the Photoshop CC subscription, you’ll still be able to download, install and work locally with the program – as long as you connect once every 30 days (or 99 days depending on your subscription) to renew your license. Depending on your subscription, you’ll have access to other Adobe programs, such as Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver. The subscription service enables you to work in the cloud, use cloud storage and a central dashboard to sync and organize your work. Prices range from $19.99 /month to $49.99 /mn.
  • Without the Photoshop CC subscription, you’ll still have your perpetual license for Photoshop CS6, assuming you’ve purchased that program. And, CS6 will be updated with Camera RAW 8. But, it will not be updated with new tools and there will not be a CS7.
