Jellyfish Lake in Palau. Ongeim’l Tketau, meaning Fifth Lake in Palauan. These are Golden Jellyfish. I believe there are also Moon Jellyfish in the lake, but I don’t see any in this photo.
I took the photo slightly below the surface of the water. You can see the rays of sun coming through the surface of the water. Freediving to shallow depths is allowed in the lake. However, no SCUBA because the bubbles can hurt (tear) the fragile Jellyfish. Also, the water is anoxic below 49ft, which is dangerous to divers as the ammonia and phosphate can poison a diver through their skin.
Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II in an Ikelite housing with a 16-35mm lens and dome port. No strobes.
