FAQ
If you want to customize the artwork in your house with a frame that matches your decor, then the Print Only option might be the right choice for you. I’ll ship the print directly to your framer, if you’d like, where you’ll undoubtedly have a huge selection of custom frames and mats from which to choose.
Mounting is a process that permanently binds a photographic print to an archival board. Laminating, also a permanent process, is an invisible protective sheet that takes the place of glass. Mounted and laminated photographs do not come matted and framed. You may choose to frame your mounted and laminated print; if you do, do not put glass in the frame. Frame it as though it were an oil painting.
Mounting and laminating has become quite popular in recent years – especially with large photographs. It’s also a great solution for photographs that will be hanging in bright areas, as the lamination minimizes glare.
Please be aware that these are permanent processes which forever alter the artwork. Some believe that it immediately devalues the artwork. If you’re purchasing art as an investment, this may not be the right option for you.
This method of framing utilizes special techniques and materials to protect the artwork. All processes of Conservation Framing are reversible. This process should be used any time you’d like to protect the value of the artwork.
Please be aware that photographic paper might be a little wavy. This is due to changes in temperature and humidity causing the paper to expand and contract at a different rate than the acid-free archival mat; this is called cockling. Precautions are taken to help prevent this; however, the only way to guarantee it is to dry mount the photograph. Dry mounting is a method that permanently attaches the photographic print to a piece of mounting board. This process isn’t used in conservation framing because of that permanence and, also, because of the adhesive used.
If you prefer the look of Conservation Framing but want the photograph dry mounted, please make a note in the comments when you place your order or give me a call so that I can accommodate you. An additional charge will apply.
I use white mats and black metal frames for Conservation Framing. The mat is 4″ wide on each side. That makes the finished size of the piece 8″ wider and 8″ taller than the print. For example, a 16″ x 24″ print, matted and framed will be 24″ x 32″ total finished size. If you would like different colors or styles, I will customize the piece for you using materials available on the American Frame website. However, sometimes the best option is to mail the print to your local framer who can work with you in person to help create your style.

Yes! Each photograph you purchase will be accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity. I mail the Certificates out separately, so they may not arrive on the same day as your photo. Larger photographs are only available in limited print release. Those images will be numbered on the certificate. All photographs are signed. Smaller photographs, such as 9×14 are unlimited in print runs.
LightJet Prints are true photographs, printed with light on photographic paper. LightJet’s use lasers to make an exposure on light sensitive paper. LightJet paper has proven archival and lasts longer than other popular methods of printing.
A Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay) is a fine art ink jet print. I print my Giclee’s with 8 or more professional pigment based colors, an archival ink that has proven exceptional color accuracy and 100 year life span in accelerated testing. The quality is comparable to traditional darkroom prints. Giclee’s have been on display at the finest galleries around the world and regularly sell for thousands of dollars at auction.

It takes a minimum of 2 weeks to complete any order. Large pieces may take longer. Custom orders will also require more time to complete. If you’re on a schedule, consider contacting us before you place to order so that we can work on getting you the art as soon as possible.
Framed pieces will be shipped with Plexi-glass.
